WHAT WAS THE VIBE FOR YOUR DAY?

We wanted our day to be a reflection of who we are, both individually and as a couple. We both are gentle and nurturing people but love things that are bright, funky and unique. We planned our day by making choices that we simply wanted. We tried to take people’s advice without sacrificing the things we wanted! Overall, we knew we wanted the visual aspects of our day to be able to portray our love for each other and everyone there.

WHAT SONGS DID YOU HAVE FOR THE DAY? ANY SIGNIFICANCE?

The music we used within our day was the most important thing for us. We bonded over music from the second we met, so we knew we wanted the music to be a focal point! I walked down the aisle to the acoustic version of a song titled “Looking for some Light”, by a band called Colony House.

This song holds so much meaning to the two of us for so many reasons; they were the first band we bonded over, we both believe this song is the best piece of music ever written, and a bonus discovery we made was my name (Lucy), in its Latin origin, means “Light” and the lyrics of the song say “Everybody’s looking for some light”, so it feels as if we are the light each other were searching for!!

We used some of our favourite songs for other moments, such as signing our registry, “In Agreement” by Lizzy McAlpine, leaving the church “Scary Movies” by the Rions.

Entering the reception which we used the song “Forever” by Chris Brown to pay subtle tribute to how much we love the TV show “The Office US” and first dance “Graceland Too” by Phoebe Bridgers. As far as reception music, we actually asked our guests to request a song within our RSVPs that we collated into a playlist for the dance floor!

ANY PARTICULAR MOMENTS THAT YOU WILL CHERISH AS A LASTING MEMORY FROM YOUR SPECIAL DAY?

Will - Standing in front of everyone at the ceremony was insanely nerve-wracking, but the nerves went away as soon as the music started playing and the bridesmaids, and then Lucy, walked down the aisle. It was so special to be living in the moment that we’d imagined for so long, and even more so when I realised we were getting to share it with all our favourite people!

Lucy - walking into the church with my mum & dad linking arms with me!! cliche and cheesy, but walking down the aisle, seeing everyone I love around me & seeing my best friend, my husband at the end of the aisle!! it was incredible, like time stopped and the only thing I could focus on was Will (and trying not to trip over)

HOW DID THE FLOWERS CONTRIBUTE TO THE OVERALL EMOTIONS AND MEMORIES OF YOUR WEDDING?

I (Lucy) am a HUGE flower person. My mum grows flowers in her garden and has done so since I can remember. My childhood was filled with freshly cut poppies and trips to Bunnings to buy bulbs.

The flowers were the most important part of the day for me, and I almost sobbed when I saw them!! We didn’t have the budget for any massive flower instalments or an arbour for our ceremony either, so everything rested on the bouquets. I believe the flowers Jasmine created for us captured who I am to a tee. They pulled the entire day together, making it bright, bubbly and beautiful.

I have since sent my bouquet to be preserved so I can continue to have them in my home. They are my favourite part of all the memories from our wedding day, and every time I show someone a photo from our day the FIRST thing I point out are my flowers!!

WHAT WAS A MUST-HAVE FOR THE DAY?

1. We knew we wanted our family members to play special roles within our day (after all, we are two families joining!!). My Mum and Dad both walked me down the aisle, we had Will’s Grandma and Cousin read our bible passages, and we had Will’s Pop say grace before we had dinner at our reception. We had framed photos of both our parents on THEIR wedding days next to our guestbook. We tipped off our photographer to take plenty of pictures of our grandparents (as we are so blessed and have all of our grandparents alive and well) and made special efforts to make sure our families were made to feel special within our day!

2. DISPOSABLE CAMERAS!! I know this is very trendy, but honestly, it was a HIGHLIGHT of our day!! Most people just assign a camera per table, but we had tables of 34 (yikes I know) so we actually selected and assigned people to the film cameras! We chose people who we thought would be GOOD at the role (obviously) but also tried to choose people who didn’t have other special roles in our day (but we wish could have !) This was also an awesome way for us to see the day through the eyes of our guests, which is a really special memory.

WHAT LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNT AFTER YOUR WEDDING?

This may seem really silly, but I changed my mind about so many cool things I wanted to do and did less-funky, more conventional things because I let people talk me out of the fun stuff. Want every bridesmaid in a different colour and style of dress? DO IT! Want to go barefoot? PLEASE DO! Your day is a reflection of you and your partner, and what you love and cherish!! Don’t make your day any less “you” because people tell you not to!!

ANY WEDDING HACKS YOU HAD IN THE PLANNING PROCESS THAT YOU WANT TO SHARE?

We heard SO MANY hacks too little too late (after we’d already booked the things) but my personal favourite thing we DID do was order bridesmaid dresses from an online boutique. This meant they were only $90-$120 per dress! I asked my girls for their sizes and ordered the largest one we’d need, got all of them to try it on and THEN ordered everyone else’s! This saved us from ordering dresses that they didn’t feel confident in. My sister-in-law lives 5 hours away, so an in-person shop wasn't an option and we found this way to be really helpful!

VENDOR SHOUTOUT

ALL our vendors were INCREDIBLE! I feel like we struck gold with everyone we worked with. Zach from Zach James Studio who captured our photos was immaculate. It felt like we had a long-time friend with us on the day, which made everything SO smooth and calm, and the photos he produced for us are second to none INCREDIBLE! We absolutely loved and cherished working with him, and we cannot imagine him not being part of our day!!
